Neurologist and Professor of Neurology at the Department of Neurosciences, Biomedicine and Movement of the University of Verona.

Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Center of the University Hospital of Verona.

Chief of the International Centre for Advanced Research in Multiple Sclerosis.


Following a medical degree and training in neurology, Massimiliano completed a 2-year fellowship at the Neuroimmunology Branch of the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, working on new MRI technology to visualize cortical grey matter pathology in Multiple Sclerosis.


Since 2013 he works at the University Hospital of Verona and takes care of more than 2500 patients showing Multiple Sclerosis, Neuromyelitis Optica and Anti MOG encephalitis.

His clinical and research activity is focused on neurodegeneration and neuroprotection in Multiple Sclerosis, with the aim of predicting and slowing down the accumulation and progression of irreversible disability.


His work on grey matter inflammation and neurodegeneration in Multiple Sclerosis has earned more than 200 highly cited publications in international peer-reviewed journals and several international awards. .
